Chiefs Coach Slams Defensive Unit Despite 3-2 Win

Kaizer Chiefs head coach, Fernando da Cruz, recently shared his honest thoughts regarding his men’s defensive techniques, or lack thereof.

On Sunday, 6 September, Amakhosi played against Siwelele FC (formerly Bloemfontein Celtic) at Dobsonville Stadium in Soweto, Gauteng.

While Chiefs were able to clinch a 3-2 victory over Siwelele, the match also exposed the gaps within their defensive unit.

In a post-match interview with a local sports broadcaster, Da Cruz was frank about the team’s defensive performance: “We have a lack of leadership, a lack of character and personality in our defensive line, and we need to correct that.”

He continued: “In the first half, we created chances, but we couldn’t score enough; and in the second half, they got two chances and they scored both chances, so we have an issue about that; we have to stop giving away chances to the opponents.”

Nevertheless, this latest win has enabled Kaizer Chiefs to move to third place on the Premier Soccer League table. As for Siwelele, they occupy 14th place with a meagre three points.
